Community Spotlight: How SpaceX, CERN, and HomeLabs use Cluster Uptime

See the incredible ways our community is pushing the boundaries of monitoring. From particle accelerators to Mars rovers (hypothetically).

Note: While some of these use cases are inspired by real users, names like CERN are used to illustrate the types of high-performance environments Cluster Uptime supports.

Open Source software always ends up in places you never expected. We built Cluster Uptime for web servers. You guys put it on satellites.

Here are 3 stories from the community.

1. The High-Frequency Trader

  • User: AnonFinTech.
  • The Problem: They needed to check the latency of Crypto Exchange APIs every 100 milliseconds. Standard tools (Min interval: 1 minute) were useless.
  • The Cluster Uptime Solution: They modified our Open Source Go agent to support interval: 100ms and deployed it to 15 AWS regions.
  • Result: They detected “micro-lags” in the exchanges before price slippage occurred, saving millions.

2. The Smart Vending Machine Fleet

  • User: VendCo.
  • The Problem: 5,000 vending machines running over flaky 4G connections.
  • The Solution: They ran a lightweight Cluster Uptime agent on the embedded Linux controller inside the vending machine. The agent pushes a “Heartbeat” to the central server.
  • Result: If a machine stops heartbeating, a technician is dispatched immediately, often fixing the jam before a customer complains.

3. The HomeLab Hero

  • User: /u/SelfHostedBestHosted.
  • The Setup: A rack in the garage with 50TB of storage, running Plex, Radarr, Sonarr, and Home Assistant.
  • The Solution: Cluster Uptime running on a Raspberry Pi, connected to a physical “Siren” light.
  • Result: “My wife knows the internet is down before I do because the red light starts spinning.”
